रेल मंत्री श्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने आज (02.02.2026) वीडियो कॉन्फ्रेंसिंग के माध्यम से रेलवे बजट पर आयोजित प्रेस वार्ता को संबोधित करते हुए भारतीय रेल के समग्र विकास के लिए अभूतपूर्व निवेश तथा व्यापक विस्तार योजनाओं की जानकारी दी।
अपने संबोधन में रेल मंत्री ने बताया कि चालू बजट में भारतीय रेल के लिए रिकॉर्ड ₹2,78,000 करोड़ का प्रावधान किया गया है, जो आधुनिकीकरण, क्षमता संवर्धन और भविष्य की आवश्यकताओं को ध्यान में रखते हुए एक ऐतिहासिक कदम है। इसमें से ₹14,205 करोड़ का आवंटन पश्चिम बंगाल के लिए किया गया है, जिससे राज्य में रेल अवसंरचना को और अधिक सुदृढ़ किया जाएगा।
रेल मंत्री ने वाराणसी–पटना–सिलीगुड़ी के माध्यम से एक उच्च-गति रेल कॉरिडोर की योजना की घोषणा की, जिससे भविष्य में बुलेट ट्रेन के संचालन का मार्ग प्रशस्त होगा। यह कॉरिडोर पूर्वी भारत में उच्च-गति रेल कनेक्टिविटी को नई दिशा देगा। भविष्य में इसे गुवाहाटी तक विस्तारित करने की भी योजना है, जिससे क्षेत्र के लिए एक मजबूत उच्च-गति रेल नेटवर्क विकसित किया जा सकेगा।
इसके अतिरिक्त, श्री वैष्णव ने दानकुनी–सूरत माल ढुलाई कॉरिडोर के निर्माण की घोषणा की। यह रणनीतिक परियोजना पश्चिम बंगाल, ओडिशा, छत्तीसगढ़, मध्य प्रदेश, महाराष्ट्र और गुजरात जैसे राज्यों को जोड़ते हुए माल परिवहन की दक्षता बढ़ाने, यात्रा समय घटाने और औद्योगिक आपूर्ति शृंखलाओं को सुदृढ़ करने में सहायक होगी।
यात्री सेवाओं के विस्तार पर प्रकाश डालते हुए रेल मंत्री ने बताया कि आधुनिक ट्रेनों की संख्या में उल्लेखनीय वृद्धि हुई है। पिछले एक वर्ष के दौरान ही पश्चिम बंगाल में एक दर्जन से अधिक नई ट्रेनों की शुरुआत की गई, जिससे यात्रियों को बेहतर कनेक्टिविटी और अधिक सुविधा प्राप्त हुई है।
शहरी रेल परिवहन के क्षेत्र में भी उल्लेखनीय प्रगति दर्ज की गई है। कोलकाता मेट्रो नेटवर्क के विस्तार को नई गति मिली है—जहां 1972 से 2014 के बीच 40 वर्षों में केवल 27 किलोमीटर मेट्रो लाइन का निर्माण हुआ था, वहीं 2014 के बाद मात्र 11 वर्षों में अतिरिक्त 45 किलोमीटर मेट्रो लाइन का निर्माण किया गया है।
इसके अलावा, अमृत स्टेशन योजना के अंतर्गत पश्चिम बंगाल के 100 से अधिक रेलवे स्टेशनों का पुनर्विकास आधुनिक यात्री सुविधाओं और उन्नत अवसंरचना के साथ किया जा रहा है, जिससे यात्रियों को विश्वस्तरीय स्टेशन सुविधाएं उपलब्ध कराई जा सकें।
रेल मंत्री की प्रेस वार्ता के उपरांत, आसनसोल मंडल के मंडल रेल प्रबंधक श्री सुधीर कुमार शर्मा ने मीडिया प्रतिनिधियों से संवाद किया तथा पूर्व रेलवे के आसनसोल मंडल में चल रहे विकास कार्यों, उपलब्धियों और भारतीय रेल से जुड़ी विभिन्न पहलों पर विस्तृत एवं सौहार्दपूर्ण चर्चा की।

*HISTORIC RAILWAY ALLOCATION FOR WEST BENGAL SIGNALS NEW ERA OF HIGH-SPEED & FREIGHT CONNECTIVITY*
• Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnaw outlines record investment roadmap for a future-ready Indian Railways in a Press Brief.
Asansol, 02 February 2026:
Shri Ashwini Vaishnaw, Hon’ble Minister of Railways, addressed a press conference today (02.02.2026) through Video Conferencing on the Railway Budget, highlighting unprecedented investments and major expansion initiatives aimed at transforming India’s rail infrastructure.
In his address, the Hon’ble Minister announced that a record allocation of ₹2,78,000 crore has been made for Indian Railways in the current Budget, underscoring the Government’s strong commitment towards modernization and capacity enhancement. Out of this, ₹14,205 crore has been allocated for West Bengal, reflecting the continued focus on strengthening rail infrastructure in the state.
A landmark announcement was made regarding the introduction of the high – speed corridor between Varanasi and Siliguri via Patna, which will facilitated running of Bullet train in future. That will significantly enhance high-speed connectivity in eastern India. The corridor is planned to be extended up to Guwahati in the future, creating a major high-speed rail backbone for the region.
The Hon’ble Minister also announced the construction of the Dankuni–Surat Freight Corridor, a strategic logistics project that will benefit West Bengal, Odisha, Chhattisgarh, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and Gujarat. This corridor is expected to boost freight efficiency, reduce transit time and strengthen industrial supply chains across multiple states.
Highlighting passenger service expansion, Shri Vaishnaw informed that modern train services have seen significant growth this year. More than a dozen new trains were introduced in West Bengal in the last year alone, improving connectivity and passenger convenience.
Urban rail transport has also received renewed momentum after 2014 with the accelerated expansion of the Kolkata Metro network. While only 27 km of Metro line were constructed over 40 years between 1972 & 2014, an additional 45 km have been added in just 11 years since 2014, marking a rapid pace of development.
Further, under the Amrit Station Scheme, more than 100 railway stations in West Bengal are being redeveloped with modern passenger amenities and upgraded infrastructure, aiming to enhance the travel experience and create world-class station facilities.
After the press brief by the Hon’ble Railway Minister, Shri Sudhir Kumar Sharma, Division Railway Manager, Asansol, also interacted with media persons and held a cordial discussion on various development works and achievements of Asansol Division of Eastern Railway in particular and Indian Railways in general.
