Newspaper Correspondent – In a press conference at the Kharagpur Town Police Station today, West Bengal Superintendent of Police (Paschim Medinipur) Papiya Sultana informed reporters that 6 people have been arrested in raids over the past two days. Along with them, six bikes, one toto (e-rickshaw), and one television have been recovered. Efforts are underway to recover more recently stolen bikes by interrogating the arrested individuals. Drives against illicit liquor, cannabis, and drugs are ongoing. So far, 28 people have been arrested, including several snatchers. The SP stated that continuous operations against all types of criminals will persist. Since the previous CCTV cameras are out of order, new ones will be installed across Kharagpur town very soon. The SP made it clear that they will not allow any “mafia raj” to operate under any circumstances. Warning the mafia, she stated they must either remain in jail or stay out of the city. The Chief Minister has said there will be no evictions at the moment; however, to prevent traffic congestion, encroachers on the roads in Ghatal, Medinipur Kotwali area, and Kharagpur town will be relocated. The SP further announced that a massive crackdown will begin after ‘Ulto Rath’ against those riding bikes while talking on mobile phones, riding without helmets, riding triple-seat, and using bikes with loud, modified silencers.
