यात्री सुरक्षा को सुदृढ़ करने, ट्रेनों के सुचारू संचालन को सुनिश्चित करने तथा पशु जीवन की रक्षा के उद्देश्य से, पूर्व रेलवे के आसनसोल मंडल द्वारा आसनसोल–खाना क्वाड्रुपल सेक्शन में मवेशी रेल दुर्घटनाओं (कैटल रन-ओवर) की घटनाओं को कम करने हेतु लक्षित निवारक कदम उठाए गए हैं। विस्तृत फील्ड सर्वेक्षण के उपरांत सेफ्टी फेंसिंग में मौजूद महत्वपूर्ण गैप्स की पहचान कर उन्हें बंद एवं सुरक्षित किया गया है, ताकि आवारा मवेशियों का रेलवे ट्रैक पर प्रवेश रोका जा सके।
इस पहल के तहत ईस्ट केबिन आसनसोल, अप यार्ड केबिन अंडाल, अप यार्ड अंडाल, अप यार्ड मिलराइट अंडाल, ईस्ट आउटर केबिन अंडाल, अंडाल स्टेशन क्षेत्र, क्रू लॉबी अंडाल, निमचा केबिन तथा डाउन लाइन साइड स्थित निमचा वेट ब्रिज सहित चिन्हित संवेदनशील स्थानों पर गेट एवं अन्य सुरक्षात्मक व्यवस्थाएं की गई हैं। इन स्थानों को त्वरित सुरक्षा हस्तक्षेप हेतु संवेदनशील बिंदुओं के रूप में चिह्नित किया गया था।
निवारक कार्यों के अंतर्गत सेफ्टी फेंसिंग को सुदृढ़ करना, असुरक्षित खुले स्थानों को बंद करना तथा ट्रैक के किनारे रणनीतिक स्थानों पर गेट उपलब्ध कराना शामिल है। इन उपायों की प्रभावशीलता सुनिश्चित करने एवं किसी भी नए गैप या क्षति को समय पर दुरुस्त करने हेतु नियमित निरीक्षण एवं सतत निगरानी की जा रही है।
मवेशी रेल दुर्घटनाएं न केवल गंभीर सुरक्षा जोखिम उत्पन्न करती हैं, बल्कि परिचालन में विलंब के कारण ट्रेनों की समयपालनता और यात्रियों की सुविधा पर भी प्रतिकूल प्रभाव डालती हैं, साथ ही पशु जीवन की क्षति भी होती है। अवसंरचनात्मक कमियों को दूर कर एवं निवारक व्यवस्थाओं को मजबूत कर, आसनसोल मंडल का लक्ष्य ऐसी घटनाओं में उल्लेखनीय कमी लाना तथा ट्रेन सेवाओं की विश्वसनीयता बढ़ाना है।
इसके साथ ही, ट्रैक क्षेत्रों को कचरे एवं खाद्य अपशिष्ट से मुक्त रखने के प्रयास भी किए जा रहे हैं, ताकि पशुओं की आवाजाही को हतोत्साहित किया जा सके। मवेशी पालकों एवं पशु स्वामियों से अनुरोध है कि वे अपने पशुओं को रेलवे ट्रैक से दूर रखें तथा रेलवे भूमि के निकट चराई से बचें। सामूहिक प्रयासों से ही मवेशी रेल दुर्घटनाओं की रोकथाम, पशु जीवन की सुरक्षा तथा आसनसोल मंडल में सुरक्षित, समयबद्ध और यात्री-अनुकूल रेल संचालन सुनिश्चित किया जा सकता है।

Asansol, 27 January 2026:
To enhance passenger safety, ensure smooth train operations and save animal lives, Asansol Division has undertaken focused preventive measures to reduce cattle run-over incidents over the Asansol–Khana quadruple section. Following a detailed field survey, critical gaps in safety fencing were identified and secured to prevent stray cattle from entering railway tracks.
As part of this initiative, gates and protective arrangements have been provided at identified vulnerable locations including East Cabin Asansol, Up Yard Cabin Andal, Up Yard Andal, Up Yard Millwright Andal, East Outer Cabin Andal, Andal station area, Crew Lobby Andal, Nimcha Cabin and Nimcha Weigh Bridge on the down line side. These locations were identified as sensitive points requiring immediate safety intervention.
The preventive works included strengthening of safety fencing, closure of unsafe openings and provision of gates at strategic locations along the track. Regular inspections and close monitoring are being carried out to ensure the effectiveness of these measures and to promptly address any fresh gaps or damage.
Cattle run-over incidents pose serious safety risks and often lead to operational delays, adversely affecting train punctuality and passenger convenience, besides resulting in loss of animal lives. By addressing infrastructure gaps and strengthening preventive arrangements, Asansol Division aims to significantly reduce such incidents and improve the reliability of train services.
Efforts are also underway to keep track areas free from garbage and food waste to discourage animal movement. Cattle herders and owners are requested to cooperate by keeping their animals away from railway tracks and avoiding grazing near railway land, as collective efforts are essential to prevent cattle run-over incidents, protect animal lives and ensure safe, punctual and passenger-friendly railway operations across Asansol Division.
