During the visit of the Hon’ble Union Minister of Steel, Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy, to SAIL–IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur on 12 July 2026, the four functioning trade unions—INTUC, CITU, AITUC and HMS—jointly submitted a memorandum highlighting the long-pending issues concerning employees and contract workers.

During the visit of the Hon’ble Union Minister of Steel, Shri H. D. Kumaraswamy, to SAIL–IISCO Steel Plant, Burnpur on 12 July 2026, the four functioning trade unions—INTUC, CITU, AITUC and HMS—jointly submitted a memorandum highlighting the long-pending issues concerning employees and contract workers.

The programme was attended by SAIL CMD Shri Ashok Kumar Panda and DIC Shri Surajit Mishra.

The joint delegation presented the genuine concerns of employees and contract workers and requested the Hon’ble Minister’s personal intervention for their early and favourable resolution.

The memorandum primarily covered the following issues:

• Early finalisation of the NJCS Wage Agreement.
• Immediate release of the pending 39 months’ arrears.
• Settlement of HRA and all pending financial benefits.
• Implementation of the Central Government wage structure and statutory social security benefits for contract workers.
• Extension of Ayushman Bharat and other eligible welfare schemes.
• Reconsideration of the proposed retrenchment of nearly 40% of contract workers.
• Strengthening Burnpur Hospital through regular recruitment of specialist doctors and medical professionals.
• Revival of SAIL-ISP schools or introduction of an Education Allowance for employees.
• Humanitarian consideration for the return of employees transferred after the October 2024 strike.

The four trade unions expressed confidence that the Hon’ble Minister would give due consideration to these genuine demands and take appropriate steps towards their early resolution.

The trade unions reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to safeguarding the dignity, rights, welfare and job security of employees and contract workers while extending full cooperation for the successful growth and modernisation of SAIL–IISCO Steel Plant.
