Asansol, 25 January 2026:
In a continued effort to enhance passenger safety and prevent thefts in trains and railway premises, the Railway Protection Force of Asansol Division, Eastern Railway, in coordination with the Crime Prevention and Detection Squad, Asansol, apprehended one offender and recovered two stolen mobile phones under Operation Yatri Suraksha at Sitarampur Railway Station.
On 23 January 2026, Railway Protection Force Post Sitarampur and Crime Prevention and Detection Squad personnel were on routine patrolling duty at Sitarampur station. During the patrol, they noticed a suspicious person jumping down from the Howrah–Amritsar Mail near Platform No. 03 while the train was moving slowly. Carrying a blue backpack, the person moved towards the Howrah end of the station and attempted to flee on noticing the security staff.
Noticing the suspicious movement, the alert team promptly chased and detained the individual near the Railway Relay Interlocking Cabin, Sitarampur. On checking his bag, two used mobile phones were recovered, including one Apple iPhone and one Realme Android mobile phone.
During questioning, the individual admitted his involvement in thefts committed in trains. He was identified as Roshan Mukhiya, aged 22 years, a resident of Saharsa district, Bihar. The apprehended person, along with the recovered mobile phones and relevant documents, was handed over to the Government Railway Police Station, Asansol, for further necessary action.
Asansol Division of Eastern Railway continues to carry out regular patrolling, surveillance and special security drives under Operation Yatri Suraksha to ensure the safety, security and confidence of passengers during their journey.
