भारत का रेल मंत्रालय देश के रेलवे बुनियादी ढांचे को नया रूप देने के लिए महत्वपूर्ण पहल कर रहा है। प्रमुख विकासों में बेहतर संरक्षा और दक्षता के लिए सिगनलिंग सिस्टम का आधुनिकीकरण, बैलस्टलेस तकनीक के साथ पटरियों को अपग्रेड करना और ट्रेन परिचालन नियंत्रण में सुधार करना शामिल है। इसी क्रम में बैठने हेतु बेहतर सीट व्यवस्था, बेहतर रोशनी, मुफ्त वाई-फाई और दिव्यांगजनों के लिए सुलभ सुविधाओं जैसी यात्री सुख-सुविधाओं को बढ़ाने के प्रयास भी किए जा रहे हैं। इसके अतिरिक्त, कनेक्टिविटी को सुव्यवस्थित करने के लिए स्टेशनों को शहर की परिवहन प्रणालियों के साथ एकीकृत किया जा रहा है। “अमृत भारत स्टेशन योजना” के तहत स्टेशनों का पुनर्विकास किया जा रहा है, जिसमें पर्यावरणहितैषि व्यवस्थाओं को शामिल किया जा रहा है और स्थानीय उत्पादों के लिए कियोस्क जैसी नई सुविधाएँ शुरू की जा रही हैं। इन व्यापक उन्नयनों का उद्देश्य सभी यात्रियों के लिए रेलवे यात्रा को अधिक आरामदायक, सुलभ और कुशल बनाना है।
पिछले दशक में रेलवे ने काफी प्रगति की है, जिसमें 31,180 किलोमीटर ट्रैक चालू करना और 41,655 किलोमीटर रूट का विद्युतीकरण शामिल है। ट्रैक बिछाने की गति में भी उल्लेखनीय वृद्धि हुई है, जो आधुनिकीकरण और बुनियादी ढांचे के विकास के लिए रेलवे की प्रतिबद्धता को रेखांकित करता है।
लेकिन हाल के दिनों में रेलवे की छवि को धूमिल करने के लिए योजनाबद्ध तरीके से प्रयास किए जा रहे हैं। पिछले कुछ समय से सोशल मीडिया पर एक ऐसी नकारात्मक कहानी प्रसारित होती देखी गई है, जिसका उद्देश्य अतिरंजित और भ्रामक जानकारी के माध्यम से रेलवे को बदनाम करना है।
यह देखा गया है कि भ्रामक वीडियो और पोस्ट शुरू में छोटे सोशल मीडिया अकाउंट द्वारा अपलोड किए जाते हैं और फिर बड़े अकाउंट द्वारा रेलवे के बारे में गलत सूचना फैलाते हैं। हाल ही में लोकसभा में दिए गए एक बयान में रेल मंत्री, श्री अश्विनी वैष्णव ने इन हथकंडों पर चिंता व्यक्त की है, जिसमें बताया गया कि कैसे रेलवे को बदनाम करने के लिए छोटे-छोटे मुद्दों को भी तोड़-मरोड़ कर पेश किया जा रहा है। रेलवे को बदनाम करने के ऐसे कुत्सित प्रयास विशेष रूप से ऐसे समय में चिंताजनक हैं, जब यह क्षेत्र महत्वपूर्ण कायाकल्प के दौर से गुजर रहा है।
उदाहरण के लिए, झूठा दावा करते हुए पूर्व रेलवे के आसनसोल मंडल में जलमग्न रेल ट्रैक पर मछलियों को तैरते हुए दिखाने का दृश्य प्रसारित किया जा रहा है। वैसे तो, ऐसे वीडियो ने जिज्ञासा और मनोरंजन को जगाया है, लेकिन यह वास्तविकता से परे है, जो स्थिति को सटीक रूप से नहीं दर्शाता है। वास्तव में, वीडियो को संपादित या गलत तरीके से प्रस्तुत किया गया है, क्योंकि मंडल में ऐसी कोई घटना नहीं देखी गई है।
ऐसे ही एक और दुष्प्रचार के मामले में विगत 28.02.2024 को जामताड़ा और विद्यासागर स्टेशन के बीच ट्रेन के पलटने की दुखद घटना के बाद, सोशल मीडिया और समाचार चैनलों पर भ्रामक रिपोर्टें सामने आईं, जिसमें दावा किया गया था कि उक्त दुर्घटना में 10-12 लोग मारे गए हैं। ये रिपोर्ट बिना सत्यापन या किसी आधिकारिक पुष्टि/बयान के फैलाई गई, जिससे आम जनता में अनावश्यक दहशत और भ्रम पैदा हुआ। जबकि पूर्व रेलवे के आसनसोल मंडल ने पुष्टि की कि घटना के परिणामस्वरूप दो लोगों की जान चली गई और जनता से उस समय गलत सूचना के प्रसार को रोकने के लिए केवल आधिकारिक अपडेट पर भरोसा करने का आग्रह किया था।

*UNSCRUPULOUS ATTEMPTS TO DEFAME RAILWAYS*

The Railway Ministry of India is undertaking significant initiatives to revamp the nation’s railway infrastructure. Key developments include modernizing signaling systems for enhanced safety and efficiency, upgrading tracks with ballastless technology, and improving train operation controls. Efforts are also being made to enhance passenger amenities such as better seating, improved lighting, free Wi-Fi, and accessible facilities for differently-abled individuals. Additionally, stations are being integrated with city transport systems to streamline connectivity. Under the “Amrit Bharat Stations Scheme,” stations are being redeveloped, incorporating eco-friendly practices and introducing new facilities like kiosks for local products. These comprehensive upgrades aim to make railway travel more comfortable, accessible, and efficient for all passengers.
Over the last decade, the railways have made substantial progress, including the commissioning of 31,180 track kilometers and the electrification of 41,655 route kilometers. The pace of track laying has also increased significantly, underscoring the railways’ commitment to modernization and infrastructure development.
But in recent times, efforts are being made in a planned manner to tarnish the image of the railways. For some time now, a negative narrative has been seen circulating on social media, aimed at discrediting the railways through exaggerated and misleading information.
It has been observed that misleading videos and posts are initially uploaded by small social media accounts, and then amplified by larger accounts, spreading misinformation about the railways. In a recent statement in the Lok Sabha, Railway Minister Ashwini Vaishnav expressed concern over these tactics, highlighting how even minor issues are being distorted to defame the railways. Such unscrupulous attempts to discredit the railways are particularly concerning at a time when the sector is undergoing significant rejuvenation.
For instance, a video falsely claiming and circulating that purports to show fish swimming on a waterlogged rail track in the Asansol Division of Eastern Railway. The video has sparked curiosity and amusement, but it does not depict the actual situation accurately. In reality, the video has been edited or misrepresented, as no such phenomenon has been observed in the division.
Following the tragic incident of a train runover between Jamtara and Vidyasagar station on 28.02.2024, misleading reports emerged on social media and news channels, claiming that 10-12 people had died. These reports were spread without verification or any official statement, causing unnecessary panic and confusion. The Asansol Division of Eastern Railway confirmed the incident resulted in the loss of two lives and urged the public to rely on official updates to prevent the spread of misinformation at that time.
