Awareness Workshop Held in Binpur-II Circle with the Aim of Making Jhargram TB-Free
As part of the National Tuberculosis Elimination Programme (NTEP), a special TB awareness workshop was organised today by the Binpur-II Circle with the aim of making Jhargram district tuberculosis-free. The awareness programme was organised under the initiative and planning of Shri Prakash Nath, Assistant Inspector of Schools, Binpur-II Circle.

Around 109 nodal teachers from various Primary, Junior Basic, Junior High, High, Higher Secondary and NIG schools under the Binpur-II Circle attended the workshop. Detailed discussions were held on the symptoms of TB, early detection, treatment, preventive measures, and the role of schools and society in eliminating tuberculosis.
Dr Gautam Paik, DTO and District Health Planning Officer, Jhargram District Health & Family Welfare Department, along with his colleagues, was present at the workshop. Dr Gautam Paik addressed the approximately 109 nodal teachers and delivered a valuable speech on the symptoms of TB, the importance of early detection, proper treatment, preventive measures, and the active participation of people from all sections of society in the fight against tuberculosis. His address created significant awareness among the teachers and emphasised the importance of spreading TB-related awareness among students, families and the wider community through schools.
From the Circle, Shri Kaushik Chatterjee, Teacher-in-Charge of Athela Junior High School, played an important role in planning and implementing the workshop. With his cooperation, various activities of the programme were successfully conducted.
One of the major highlights of the programme was the adoption of six TB patients under the “Nikshay Mitra” initiative. Six individuals took responsibility for providing food supplies to one TB patient each for the next six months. They are:
1. Shri Prakash Nath, Assistant Inspector of Schools, Binpur-II Circle
2. Shri Ranjan Pal, Shiksha Bandhu, Binpur-II Circle
3. Smt. Agnita Niyogi, Assistant Teacher, Malabati Junior High School
4. Shri Sudhamay Sen, Teacher-in-Charge, Shilda Radhacharan Institution
5. Smt. Sudeshna Kar, Headmistress, Aulia High School
6. Shri Asim Mondal, Assistant Teacher, Laldanga Nishtharinī Vidya Mandir
At the conclusion of the programme, Assistant Inspector of Schools Shri Prakash Nath said that the important issues discussed during the workshop should not remain confined to the school premises but should reach every student, their families and the wider society. He stressed that everyone must work together to build a TB-free society by increasing awareness about tuberculosis, ensuring timely detection and promoting proper treatment.
Addressing the nodal teachers, he further urged them to convey the message of the workshop to every student and their families and to spread awareness throughout the wider community through their respective schools. He also sincerely appealed to the other teachers present to come forward in the days ahead and adopt at least one TB-affected person under the “Nikshay Mitra” initiative and stand by them in their journey towards recovery.
The goal of making Jhargram TB-free can only be achieved through the collective efforts and social responsibility of the Health Department, Education Department, teaching community and the general public. The initiative undertaken by the Binpur-II Circle is therefore a significant and humanitarian step towards achieving this important goal.
